An inclusive, diverse and equitable workplace for everyone.

At QIC, we know that our people perform at their best when they feel valued and encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work every day.

Our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy consists of five key pillars: Gender equality, LGBTQ+, Accessibility, Cultural & Linguistic diversity, and First Nations People.

Employee benefits

Our workplace is grounded by passionate groups, bringing together like-minded peers who knowledge share, network and champion social responsibility and the future of our workplace. The DEI Wellness working group, QPride, Q-Ability, Young Professionals, QLife, RAP, and Balance Networks are just some of these QIC communities, alongside our charity partners, Friends with Dignity and the Queensland Community Foundation.

We believe mental, financial, and physical health allows for sustained high performance. Our wellbeing programs help our employees manage their own health and finances through initiatives including fitness reimbursements, Employee Assistance Programs, and wellbeing webinars.

We are committed to recognising high performing employees and helping our people grow their career with a bold focus on mobilising our workforce across and within divisions. As outcome generators, we reward these achievements through peer nominated CEO and Standards of Excellence awards.

We are committed to the learning and development of our people to ensure they have the skills and capabilities to deliver exceptional outcomes for QIC now and into the future. We support our people on their career journey, which looks different for everyone. QIC provides development opportunities to enhance people’s skills, leadership development and professional capability. Examples include coaching and mentoring, leadership programs, diversity and inclusion training, business skills professional development courses, LinkedIn Learning and study assistance.

At QIC we aim to provide an environment where our people can thrive. Our flexible working arrangements allow employees to raise families, pursue personal passions, and live balanced lives all while growing their careers. Flexible working means having flexibility in how, when or where you work, and all QIC employees have access to hybrid flexible working. Working flexibly will be different for every QIC employee, depending on their personal circumstances, the requirements of their role and the needs of the business.

Examples of formal flexible working arrangements include part-time, job-sharing arrangements, condensed working hours, and adjusted hours. We also offer carers leave, recharge leave, parental leave, and many other leave options to help integrate work and life goals.

QIC employee networks

QIC’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Wellness working group is a strong representation of the workforce and our employee networks. The working group shapes focus, achieves strategic outcomes, provides real feedback, and ensure that QIC’s pursuit of a truly diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce is embraced and sustained. Some key achievements of the working group are:

  • A refreshed and inclusive Leave Standard
  • Launch of QIC’s disability network, Q-Ability
  • Establishment of QIC’s Mental Heath First Aid officer network and DFV Purple Ribbon advocates.

The Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) working group is comprised of subject-matter-experts and representatives from all teams at QIC, dedicating their time to help us achieve reconciliation through our RAP initiatives by:

  • Highlighting and celebrating Indigenous days of significance
  • Creating immersive and educational opportunities for employees
  • Procurement of Indigenous services and goods
  • Creating Indigenous employment opportunities within teams
  • Community engagement and external partnerships with local Indigenous groups and organisations
  • Creating a culturally safe and respectful workplace
  • Development and implementation of new RAPs
  • Creating the path of QICs Reconciliation journey.

Our Balance Network focuses on achieving gender equality and work life balance across QIC by:

  • Highlighting and celebrating days of significance
  • Fostering an inclusive culture
  • Introducing flexible working policies and support systems
  • Building a pipeline of future female leaders
  • Creating stronger external networks
  • Encouraging and fostering personal and professional growth for all of our employees.

We have made progress on achieving a gender-balanced organisation, with 49% of our colleagues identifying as female and 51% as male.

QPride brings together employees who are allies of, or who identify as members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and all other gender and sexual diversities (LGBTQ+) community.

QPride has continued to focus on strategic deliverables and initiatives to increase awareness and educate our people including:

  • Targeted campaigns around LGBTQ+ days of significance
  • Proactively making changes to QIC policies to raise the standard of support, inclusivity and protection for LGBTQ+ colleagues, their families and allies
  • Facilitation of LGBTQ+ training opportunities for employees
  • Specific work around gender neutral bathroom facilities for our offices.

QPride continues to support the great work of the QIC Diversity, Inclusion & Wellness working group, who are responsible for shaping QIC’s LGBTQ+ agenda and driving the network’s activities through decision making and referrals to other committees within QIC.

QIC was recognised as a Bronze Employer in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) for 2023-26, recognising our continued efforts to create a workplace that embraces each person’s unique self, ensuring all our people feel valued and that they belong.

The Young Professionals (YPs) Network provides opportunities for network building and professional development.

QIC has 374 young professionals across our offices globally (as at 30 June 2023), equating to approximately 40.2% of QIC’s team members.
